I walked to the post office today having some weird gut feeling that today was going to be a great day in the mail. I was feeling 6-7 envelopes. As excitement filled my head the two minuet walk flew by even though the temperature was 100 degrees outside. Walked into the post office had my usual hello's with the postal lady, and then hurriedly tried my P.O. key and opened the box. All the excitement was coming to a climax as the little door swung open. Inside to my dismay was one envelope. Although one is still better than none, I couldn't help but be a little let down. I carried my one envelope home, and for some reason on the walk back I noticed the heat a lot more. When I got home I do as I always do go straight to my office sit down and open my envelope. Its funny how much it feels like Christmas. Today's mail held Mr. Ken Hodge Sr. He signed another card for my set.
Ken Hodge
Stereotyped as a grinding policeman - at 6'2", 215 lbs, Hodge was one of the larger forwards of his era - the rangy right wing played two mediocre seasons with the Black Hawks before being sent to Boston in a blockbuster deal with teammates Phil Esposito and Fred Stanfield. The trade made the Bruins into a powerhouse, as Esposito centered Hodge and left wing Ron Murphy in the 1969 season to break the NHL record for points in a season by a forward line, and Hodge scored a spectacular 45 goals and 45 assists to match Esposito's record season of 126 points. His production fell off significantly the next season, but the 1971 season saw the Bruins launch the greatest offensive juggernaut the league had ever seen, breaking dozens of offensive records. In that flurry, on one of the most feared forward lines of the era. Hodge would break the league record for points in a season by a right winger with 105, and finish fourth in NHL scoring. Bruins Esposito Bobby Orr, Johnny Bucykand Hodge finished 1–2–3–4 in league scoring—the first time in NHL history such a feat was accomplished. (thanks to wikipedia for that info)
That sums up todays mail but I would like to take a moment to tell you about another blog that i have started. This blog is going to follow more closely my Brooklyn Dodger Project. The site is called 55 Sullivan Place. The address for Ebbets Field. Please if you are a reader of my blog, and you want to learn more about the Brooklyn Dodgers don't be afraid to click on the link and read some more.
Another small note of importance. I am hoping within the next week to get an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) Post up. This would be nice to give people an idea how to get started on collecting autographs your self. This is a small work in progress so it make take some time, but hey all great things do.
I'll end todays Post with a quote from Bob Lemon:
Baseball was made for kids, and grown-ups only screw it up.
